Welcome to the Family Health Clinic
The Family Health Clinic (FHC) is a community-based healthcare program that operates in partnership with Medical Center Hospital, the Ronald McDonald Charities, and the Family Dental Clinic to provide a wide range of healthcare services to uninsured and underinsured individuals in Odessa and the surrounding communities.
The center opened its doors in 1994 and was designated as a Federally Qualified Community Health Center Look Alike in 2008.
The FHC provides medical services for walk-in appointments, acute services, minor mental health service, physicals, DOT physicals, well child exams, immunizations, CLIA waived lab services, and radiology services. The center employs specialists in Pediatrics, Family Practice, Internal Medicine and Women’s Health, as well as providers from Texas Tech OB/GYN for special cases.
Patient Education
Prevention and education play a key role in our clinic and are always discussed during patient visits. We also offer group and one-on-one educational classes on Diabetes, Nutrition, Asthma, Glucometer use, medication in-take and weight management among other topics.
Affordable Healthcare
It is our goal to provide healthcare that is accessible and affordable to all patients. We use a sliding scale fee schedule and provide several types of financial assistance programs (described below).
• Sliding Scale Co-Pay: Discounted medical services based upon household income.
• Primary Healthcare: Offers discounted medical, dental, and prescription services based upon household income. Co-pays range from $15 to $50 for medical services.
• Prescription Assistance: Provides a $10 co-pay for a 30-day supply of medication.
• Ector County Assistance: Provided in conjunction with MCH, this program offers a $10 co-pay for medical services as well as prescription services.
Social and Financial Services
Social Services are available at FHC for established patients. We also employ financial counselors who work through a network of local and regional agencies to find resources to assist patients with referrals to specialists, prescriptions, medical equipment, home health and other necessary services.
Teaching Partnerships
The Family Health Clinic is a teaching facility that allows students to conduct clinical rotations in the areas of Nursing, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, X-ray Technician and Medical Assistant.
Literacy and Prevention
The FHC is dedicated to promoting literacy and prevention through community outreach activities such as presentations and newsletters directed to ECISD schools, community organizations and senior centers among others. An example of this is the ROAR program, which provides a book to every child age 6 months to 5 years during their well child exam. A prescription is given to the parent requiring them to read to their child at least 30 minutes before bedtime. This not only promotes literacy, it also ensures quality family time that can aid in promoting important developmental skills.
Community Involvement
The Family Health Clinic is dedicated to serving our community through various activities, such as our annual
Community-Wide Flu Clinic and our Healthy Kids Fun Day – a total wellness project done in cooperation with
the Odessa Rotary Club and the Permian Basin Workforce Development Board. We’re also actively involved with Spirit of Women, Volunteer Services, Diabetes Center, West Texas Food Bank, Senior Centers, Meals on Wheels and many more worthy causes.
