MCH Carestar
ABOUT CARESTAR
When minutes count in a life-threatening trauma, emergency air travel can mean the difference between life and death for some patients. Medical Center Hospital’s Carestar flight service is proud to have two Bell 407 helicopters to provide service to 17 surrounding communities in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico.
The Bell 407, with a top speed of 160 mph, is fast becoming the most popular EMS helicopter in the nation based on its reliability and unsurpassed record of safety and performance. Patients transported in MCH CareStar will benefit from the availability of a portable oxygen system, suction system, cardiac monitors, defibrillator with pacing capability, and auxiliary power converter for in-flight medical procedures.
With on-scene capability, the MCH CareStar Flight Service is able to provide trauma care and rapid transport for critically injured patients. The service will also transport critical ill patients from outlying regional hospitals for advance care and treatment.
MCH Carestar is CAMTS accredited and recently named EMS Air Medical Provider of the Year by Texas Department of State Health Services.
OUR STAFF
The MCH CareStar flight crew is staffed by highly skilled registered nurses and paramedics specially trained through our associate company Med-Trans Corporation. All of our rotor pilots are "high-time" pilots with extensive military, civilian, and EMS experience. Each pilot possesses a Class II Medical Certificate and Commercial Helicopter / Instrument Ratings.
Our Flight Nurses and Flight Paramedics are extensively trained and highly certified, commonly with 20+ years of Emergency and Critical Care experience on board. All rotor wing flight crewmembers at this program are required to obtain their critical care emergency transport provider certification, transport nurse advanced trauma course or advanced trauma life support, in addition to the common emergency services certifications. CareStar is also requiring their staff to have national certifications such as CFRN, CCRN, CEN, FP-C.
Medical personnel provide care at the scene, at the referral hospital, and en route to Medical Center Hospital. An advanced communications system also allows the flight team to confer with Emergency Department physicians at Medical Center Hospital.
